LGBTQ bloc at the anti-racism demo Nederland Bekent Kleur 2010

What : Queer Bloc march to anti-racism demo at the Dam

When : May 30th, Sunday, 13.45

Where : Behind Crea, Turfdraagsterpad 17, where the Binnengasthuistraat starts

On May 30th (sunday) will be a huge anti-racism demo at the Dam, Amsterdam, organised by Nederland Bekent Kleur (http://www.nederlandbekentkleur.nl/) !

We are helping coordinate a Queer Block on this day, to raise our voices against racism as LGBTQ people in The Netherlands. We are meeting outside Crea, (Turfdraagsterpad) at 13.45 on the 30th, and we will walk through the city, to join the demo at the Dam, with banners and placards, flyers, and of course, music ! So come and join us and bring your friends along ...

QueerNL calls for an inclusive and diverse society; denounce fear mongering and all forms of minority bashing, stereotyping and intolerance! And we certainly do not like to be used by right wing politicians to justify their anti-immigrant stand. We march in solidarity with immigrants and asylum seekers, and people from minorities facing discrimination and prejudice. We would also like to remind ourselves of the ethnic/racial/linguistic diversity within the LGBT community.

For more details or if you would like to help organise stuff, contact us.

Angst Misbruik = Machts Misbruik !

The original presenter for the NBK at the Dam was known to have expressed homophobic views in the past. The COC and others pointed this out in a letter, following which, the NBK had an internal debate and decided to change the presenter. Their statement is given below.

Workshops

There will be three workshops during the weekend. Each workshop will be have 3-4 panelists who speak for less than 10 minutes, followed by a lengthy discussion amongst everyone. We hope to lead each workshop into ending with a definite conclusion in the form of an action group on a specific issue.

The three themes are :

  • Homonormativity, corporatisation of the Dutch gay scene, and classism within the LGBT community,
  • Sexism and transphobia within the LGBT community, and how we do we evolve a common political platform
  • Islamophobia and the Dutch right wing and their links to 'gay rights' and racism within the community

The contents of each of these workshops are described here in detail.
