2dh5 2008

The 2Dh5 festival is a yearly gathering about political activism in the Netherlands. The idea is to organize opportunities for sharing knowledge on tactics and strategies to change the world. Workshops and performances vary from very practical (computer skills, how to occupy buildings etc.) to more theoretical and from meetings to performances and films. In 2008, we organised a workshop on Queer Activism in The Netherlands. The flyer with the theme of the workshop can be downloaded in dutch and english.

There were more than 20 of us at the workshop. A few panelists, mainly queers who were actively involved in queer activism as well as other issues like migration etc, led by speaking for a few minutes on what they thought was the scope of queer activism. Everyone present was involved in some political activism or the other in the country. We did not arrive at any conclusion, but there were two broad schools of opinion in the debate - one which did not see the need to mobilise people based on being queer, and one which thought it was essential. Hopefully, we will be able to continue this debate at a future 2dh5 and try synthesize these two views !
